Beyond the Classroom, Into the Past
During a recent Vastu Sangrahalaya visit, Our Std XI students traded textbooks for timelines today, with a visit to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya. Both our Arts and Commerce students made the trip together, swapping the classroom for a day of history, heritage, and hands-on learning.
Housed in a stunning Indo-Saracenic building in the heart of Mumbai, the museum is home to an extraordinary range of collections spanning sculpture, decorative arts, and natural history. For our students, it was a chance to see the subjects they study on paper come alive in three dimensions.

Stepping into History: Highlights from the Vastu Sangrahalaya Visit
Students explored galleries filled with ancient artifacts, sculptures, and stories spanning centuries, walking through sections dedicated to sculpture, decorative arts, and natural history.
Learning beyond the syllabus
A chance for our Arts and Commerce streams to experience history outside the classroom walls. Guided displays on Mumbai's past connected directly to what our Arts students study in History and Political Science, while our Commerce students found their own points of interest in the museum's coverage of trade, textiles, and craft.
Curiosity in motion
From questions to observations, students engaged actively with everything the museum had to offer. Many stopped to sketch exhibits, note down details for future projects, and discuss what they saw with their teachers and classmates along the way.
Building on classroom learning
Visits like these give real texture to what’s taught in the classroom. Seeing an artifact up close, understanding the context behind it, and hearing its story does more for retention than any textbook chapter, and it’s exactly the kind of experiential learning we want our Junior College students to have as part of their academic journey.
